Just as Samsung unveiled its latest generation of foldables, Honor has countered with a surprise announcement: the Honor Magic V3. This new phone claims the title of the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market, measuring an incredibly slim 9.2mm.
This achievement builds upon the success of the already-thin Honor Magic V2, which previously held the record at 9.9mm. The V3 manages to shave off an impressive 0.7mm, making it remarkably thin for a foldable device.
For comparison, other popular foldable phones on the market are significantly thicker:
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: 12.1mm
Google Pixel Fold: 12.1mm
OnePlus Open/Oppo Find N3: 11.7mm
The Magic V3’s slim profile becomes even more impressive when you consider that it’s only 0.3mm thicker than Honor’s current flagship non-foldable phone, the Magic 6 Pro, practically the same thickness as a standard phone.
However, there is a slight caveat: Honor mentions that the 9.2mm measurement applies specifically to the “Velvet Black” variant. Other color options come in at a slightly thicker 9.3mm. Despite this, Honor assures users that there’s no trade-off for this impressive thinness.
The device features a 7.92-inch inner display and a 6.43-inch outer display, both 120Hz OLED panels with high PWM refresh rates, and boasts IPX8 water resistance. It also offers a peak brightness of 2,500 nits and supports stylus input, similar to last year’s Magic V2.
Weighing 226g, down from 231g, it is 13 grams lighter than the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and comparable to bar phones like the Magic 6 Pro. Under the hood, the Honor Magic V3 includes a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. On the back, it sports a trio of cameras: a 50MP primary sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom. The front-facing cameras on both displays are 20MP sensors. A 5,150mAh battery powers the Honor Magic V3, larger than the previous generation, with support for 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Available in red, white, green, and black, the Honor Magic V3 starts at CNY 8,999 ($1,241) for the 12GB/256GB model and goes up to CNY 10,999 ($1,517) for the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage option. Open sales in China begin on July 19, though global availability has not yet been confirmed.
