I’m an apartment dweller and would need a massive raise to even think about owning a pool, but my parents do have a pool and they are always complaining about how tedious it is to keep it clean. There is a small swimming pool in the backyard, and I’m roped in by them every spring and summer to help clean it. They love being able to take a dip when they feel like it, but keeping it clean has always been a headache. Let us face it, pool cleaning is not fun and both my parents hate every second of it – as do I.
As I was browsing all the pool cleaners on the internet looking for a solution to keep the bottom of the pool (and ideally the walls) fresh and clean, I suddenly remembered a very interesting pool cleaner that I had seen when I was gathering material for a report on CES 2023 earlier this year. I asked my colleague to contact the company and ask for a product to test, and voila, I present to you my pool saver – Degrii Zima Pro – an automatic cordless pool cleaner with ultrasonic radars.
One of the highlights of Zima Pro is its cordless design. Unlike most traditional pool cleaners on the market, the device cleverly transforms the power supply into a floating minion that follows the submersible and also serves as WiFi for signal reception to work with the companion app, which I’ll discuss in more detail later.
This cordless design eliminates the need for a power cord, so you can clean your pool without worrying about tripping over wires or getting tangled up. It also means you don’t have to worry about electrical leaks, which can be a serious hazard, especially if you have children or pets.
I know you’re wondering if the battery will last long enough to clean your entire pool in one go. I had that concern, too, when I first saw Zima Pro. The supercharged floating 10,000 mAh battery claims to be able to clean 3.5 hours of operating time or 5,000 ft² of an area on a single charge. In our testing, we found that the battery lasted an average of 3 hours and 32 minutes, which exceeded even our expectations and the manufacturer’s own claims, which is really impressive.
Zima Pro is equipped with state-of-the-art ultrasonic radars that allow it to map out and navigate your pool autonomously and clean almost all surfaces, including the walls, steps, and water lines in an optimal cleaning path that covers the entire pool in the most efficient way possible. Zima Pro can also detect obstacles such as rocks to better navigate, and collect data on fluctuating factors such as pool depth and acceleration to adjust during cleaning.
Zima Pro‘s 250W brushless pump and dual filtration filters provide powerful suction that picks up almost all debris, making it easy to clean your pool in just one pass. While you might think that the company has compromised on performance due to the limited power supply design, Zima Pro can climb and scrub all accessible pool surfaces, including the sides and water lines, making it more than capable of handling the cleaning tasks just like its wired peers with unlimited power input.
The dual-layer filtration system utilizes ultra-fine filters to capture particles as small as 180 microns, which is about the size of a human hair tip. This means that Zima Pro can remove even the smallest dirt and algae particles from your pool, leaving it clean and clear.
To further improve cleaning performance, you can equip Zima Pro with water purification packs that can absorb fine dirt and eliminate odors. This is a very simple but thoughtful idea, as it allows you to customize Zima Pro to your specific needs in a single step. For example, if you have a pool that is used by people with sensitive skin, you can use it to help remove chlorine or other chemicals that can cause irritation. For those who may not know: Activated carbon in these packs is one of the few filtering materials capable of reliably and effectively removing a myriad of organic pollutants and pesticides.
The device is equipped with an app featuring on-the-go control. The app’s user interface is so intuitively designed that even a 5-year-old can master it quickly. Cleaning specific areas and surfaces is as easy as playing a game: You can control it from anywhere the signal can reach, which is further and more clear than some of its competitors keeping their WiFi routers underwater.
Of course, you can do more than just control it remotely. There are other functions available, such as selecting the cleaning mode, scheduling functions, and monitoring progress and battery level. And in my experience, it is very convenient to schedule cleaning for times when you are not using the pool.
Once the battery needs recharging, Zima Pro will park itself against the wall waiting to be fished out. There’s also a one-click lift function inside the app. Tap the lift button and Zima Pro will climb the nearest wall and wait patiently for you.
Owning a pool is a big commitment, and one of the most important aspects of pool ownership is maintenance. Pools need to be cleaned regularly, the water needs to be tested and balanced, and pool equipment needs to be maintained. Skimming the water can remove unwanted materials, but it does not remove everything that has fallen to the bottom.
Unlike pressure and suction cleaners, robotic pool cleaners do not need your pool’s filtration system or pump system to work. This means you do not have to pay for electricity to run these systems, which can save you a significant amount of money in the long run.
Degrii Zima Pro is a robotic pool cleaner that offers a number of advantages over other models on the market. Its unique design addresses the main pain points, and its unmatched cleaning performance and versatility make it a great solution for any pool owner who wants to keep their pool clean and healthy without investing a lot of time or money.
