The first thought that comes to my mind when I do furniture shopping is – Cat proof?
I have two air purifiers at home, both the standard kind, and my cats love using them as a jumping board to reach the top of my bookshelf. I guess that’s why I like furniture with multiple uses (Although cats can always find a new way to use them).
Recently IKEA launched their new purifier “Starkvind”, which can be doubled as a small table, continuing its journey of building electronics products into furniture.
“For IKEA, the smart home is not about gadgets. It’s about making life and home better through combining our solid home furnishing knowledge with digital solutions and technology,” says Henrik Telander, Product Owner at IKEA of Sweden. “That’s why we explore the possibility of integrating the function of purifying air and technology to provide a good experience for customers at home.”
The three-filter system can filter out 99.5 percent of smaller particles in the air like PM 2.5 particles, dust, and pollen. One of the filters claims to be able to remove unwanted gases such as formaldehyde and other VOC gases as well as to reduce odors from cooking as well as other smells. There are five different fan speeds for users to control manually and a separate auto mode that adjusts the speed using a built-in sensor.
According to Ikea, the air purifier should be able to clean rooms up to 215 square feet (20 square meters) while the noise level is stated at 24 decibels at the lowest level, which is almost inaudible, and more noticeable 53 decibels at full blast.
The table is available in light oak and dark oak veneer, they will be available in October and will cost $189 for the table and $129 for the stand-alone model. The gas filter must be purchased separately while the particle filter is included.
