This room service robot will revolutionize the hotel industry
In the service industry, robots are the rage. Why waste valuable man hours and effort when a robot can accomplish the work more efficiently and for less money?
The latest service robot serves a specific role in the hospitality sector – you guessed it… a room service robot.
Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce giant, recently announced that it is developing a smart robot that will assist hotel guests with whatever they may need.
In the hotel of the future, these smart robots will perform a variety of task including delivering food to your door, collecting and delivering your laundry, etc.
To begin the process, hotel guests will request service via a smart speaker. When the order is received, the robot will then carry out the request by picking up whatever is needed from a human or dispensing system and delivering it to the guest’s door.
When the robot arrives, the guest receives a notification on the smart speaker, and the robot verifies their identity via facial recognition.
To navigate the hotel, the robots use a programmed floor plan along with laser and radar sensors to avoid hitting obstacles. Its top speed is 2.2 mph, so don’t expect to be caught off guard by the robot approaching.
The robot also alerts other guests or staff where it is heading via direction laser markers that it projects onto the floor. In addition, the robot is equipped with a Wi-Fi communication system that allows it to navigate elevator systems and doors.
The robot itself is about three and a half feet tall and made from aluminum – there is no doubt that this looks like robots that we have seen in science fiction films…
This technology is still in development, but who knows? Maybe the next time you order room service at a hotel, a friendly robot will deliver your meal right to your door.
