For armored vehicles, changing wheels could take a long time because of the weight and the height of the car. To adjust according to the terrains is a challenge to keep the military operation going smoothly without losing time.
The morphing wheels is a new project DARPA that looks for a solution. The internal mechanism allows the wheels to change shapes within two seconds handling snow, mud, sand or concrete without a hitch.
Darpa claims the vehicle could see a reduction in crew and size by as much as 50 percent, and an increase of speed by 100 percent. It would allow the vehicle to access 95 percent of the terrain.
